Ferrous Sulfate Introduction:

Light blue-green crystals or granules, odorless. Relative density 1.897, melting point 64°C. Easy to dissolve in dry air. At 56.6°C, it turns into tetrahydrate salt, and at 65°C, it turns into monohydrate salt. At 300°C, it turns into anhydrous white powder, and the temperature starts to decompose at 480°C. Ferrous sulfate properties:
Ferrous sulfate is reducing. It releases toxic gases when decomposed by high heat. In the laboratory, it can be obtained by reacting copper sulfate solution with iron. It will weather in dry air. It is easily oxidized to brown-yellow basic ferric sulfate that is insoluble in water in humid air. 10% aqueous solution is acidic to litmus (Ph value is about 3.7). It loses 3 molecules of water when heated to 70~73°C, loses 6 molecules of water when heated to 80~123°C, and turns into basic ferric sulfate when heated to above 156°C. Ferrous sulfate can be used to make iron salts, iron oxide pigments, mordants, water purifiers, preservatives, disinfectants, etc.
