Product:
Ferrous sulfate heptahydrate, the color of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate is green, monoclinic crystal or granular, odorless
Relative density 1.898, melting point 64 °C. It is highly soluble in water. (48. 6g/100 ml of water decomposes red-hot at 50 ℃ to form ferric oxide, which is soluble in glycerol but insoluble in ethanol. It is corrosive and will efflovesce in dry air. At 56.6 ℃, the heptahydrate transforms into a tetrahydrate, and at 64.6 ℃, it becomes a monohydrate. At 90 ℃, six molecules of crystalline water are lost, and at 300 ℃, all molecules of crystalline water are lost, forming anhydrous substances. At red-hot conditions, SO2 and SO3 decompose and are released. It is corrosive. It emits fluorescence in dry air. Anhydrous substances are white powders, but they turn blue-green when mixed with water.
Application:
(1) Water treatment
Ferrous sulfate is used for flocculation and water purification, and to remove phosphate from urban and industrial wastewater to prevent water eutrophication.
(2) Reducing agent
Ferrous sulfate is widely used as a reducing agent, mainly to reduce chromate in cement.
(3) Colorants
The production of tannic acid ink and other inks requires ferrous sulfate. Ferrous dyes are also used for wood dyeing
Mordant. Ferrous sulfate can be used to dye concrete yellow rust, while ferrous sulfate in carpentry can dye maple wood silver.
(4) Analytical Chemistry
Ferrous sulfate can be used as a reagent for chromatographic analysis.
