Applications:
(1) Water treatment
Ferrous sulfate is used for flocculation and purification of water and for removal of phosphates from municipal and industrial wastewater to prevent eutrophication of water bodies.
(2) Reducing agent
Ferrous sulfate is used extensively as a reducing agent, mainly to reduce chromate in cement.
(3) Coloring agent
Ferrous sulfate is required for the production of tannic acid ink and other inks. Ferrous dyes are also used in mordants for wood dyeing. Ferrous sulfate can be used to dye concrete yellow rust, while woodworking ferrous sulfate makes maple wood dye silver.
(4) Analytical chemistry
Ferrous sulfate can be used as a reagent for chromatographic analysis.
